What’s a District Representative?

All the Al-Anon Family Groups in Jackson and Josephine County belong to a District of the Oregon Area Al-Anon. We are District 7. The District Representative or DR chairs district meetings and represents our district at the Oregon Area World Service Committee. This committee plans Assemblies (state wide business meetings all Group representatives and Oregon Area Officers attend). The DR also serves as a resource and information source for the groups.

We have a very active District. At our District Meetings we discuss, coordinate and plan activities of: Alateen, Public Outreach, Al-Anon Answering Service, District Website, our literature depot – Southern Oregon Literature Depot (S.O.L.D.) Fun and Fund raising activities, publishing meeting lists for our District, and making sure information from the WSO gets to the groups via the Group Representative. It can also be a place to hear the experience strength and hope of others on how to handle group concerns. Each member of Al-Anon is WELCOME to attend our business meetings. See events calendar on this website for details. Our program recommends that each group has a Group Representative. Right now our District has 22 (counting our 2 newest meetings) groups and one Alateen group. We currently have 12 Group Representatives attending District Meetings. Does your group have a representative? The job could be waiting for you to be willing.

The district meeting is held once a month, usually the first Saturday, unless it is a holiday weekend. We meet at 10 AM usually at the Smullin Center at RVMC. All Al-Anon members are invited to attend. See the events calendar for exact dates and location. All Group Representatives are asked to attend this meeting on a regular basis and report back to their groups. If your group does not have a Group Representative (GR) then you may be missing out on what’s new in this area, Oregon and all of Al-Anon.
