What does Public Outreach do? |
Tradition 5 - Each Al-Anon Family Group has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps of AA ourselves, by encouraging and understanding our alcoholic relatives, and by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics.
Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Public Outreach carries the message of hope to those who still suffer from living with alcoholism by taking literature to different places around the Rogue Valley, participating in health fairs, taking public service announcements to t.v. and radio stations, and sending out mailings to professionals. Al-Anon members share experience, strength and hope at local treatment facilities. And much more...
We want to tell you what we've been doing to help carry the message.
~ Professional Mailing 3 times a year to Doctors, Counselors, Churches, Lawyers, Judges and Nurses. This includes the new meeting list, one piece of Al-Anon literature, and a letter from the Public Outreach Chairperson. The Professional Magazine “Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism” is sent out in September, along with a new meeting list and a letter. About 60 of the almost 400 mailings on the professional mailing list are hand delivered.
~ Presentations to Treatment Facilities: We are creating a speaker list of willing Al-Anon members to present to several facilities
~ Health Fairs: Access Senior Health Fair, Community Fair in Grants Pass, Community Recovery Fair at the Medford Courthouse, S.O.D.A. Drugs & Alcohol awareness Health Fair at the high school with police and recovery community.
~ Literature Distribution tear-off flyers and meeting lists to public places and other drop off points such as libraries, LaClinica, Access, West Main Family Center, Community Works, Dunn House, churches, counselors offices, health dept., RVTD, SOU library, Salvation Army, Harry & David, and RVMC (2 north and E.R. depts..) etc. Used Forums (with sticker that has local phone number and website info) distributed to treatment centers, doctors offices, above places etc. Al-Anon literature distributed to treatment centers during presentations.
